Two teams limping toward the finish line, but Wake Forest has significantly more to play for. The Demon Deacons sit at 14-13 and desperately need wins to build an NIT case, while Boston College at 9-18 is playing out the string with a brutal six-game losing streak. Wake's come in off an ugly 63-82 loss at Virginia Tech, but before that they'd won three of four. BC hasn't won since... well, it's been a while.
Wake Forest's road record is the elephant in the room. At 4-7 away from home, the Deacons aren't world-beaters on the road. That Virginia Tech blowout was their most recent road game, and they've been inconsistent away from Greensboro. The books know this — that's why this is only 4.5 despite the talent gap.
But BC's collapse is real and accelerating. Six straight losses, and the scores are getting worse — that 70-94 drubbing at SMU was a white flag game. Their defense has been atrocious, giving up 78.5 PPG over the last six. Meanwhile, Wake Forest's frontcourt of Visser (58.4% FG) and Williams (61.9% FG) combined with 16.3 RPG should feast against a BC team that gets killed on the glass (36 RPG vs Wake's 41.7).
The rebounding edge is massive. Wake grabs 14.8 offensive boards per game versus BC's 13.6 defensive boards. That's second-chance points waiting to happen. Visser and Williams are going to live in the paint.
Wake Forest -4.5. BC's home record looks decent at 8-10, but dig deeper — those 8 wins came against bottom-feeders early in conference play. They've lost five straight at home including California, Stanford, and Miami. This team has quit. Wake has the frontcourt advantage, the rebounding edge, and the motivation.
The total at 145.5 feels about right — BC's been trending lower offensively but Wake should push pace enough to keep it close to that number. I'll stay away from the total.
Confidence: 2 units. Wake's road struggles and my cold streak keep this measured, but the matchup advantages are real and BC is in freefall.
