VCU isn’t being asked to win this game — they’re being asked to break Fordham’s will. This is a classic “pressure + depth at home” spot where one team can manufacture extra possessions and turn a close game into a 10–0 run in two minutes. Fordham’s recent results look respectable, but most of that is grind-it-out, low-scoring basketball; that style gets fragile fast when you’re coughing it up and chasing shooters.

Two angles I don’t think the number fully captures:

1) Turnover math + free points. Fordham is turning it over 17.5 times per game, and that’s the worst possible leak against a VCU team that’s built to convert chaos into transition. Even if Fordham “hangs around” in the half court, those empty trips are what create separation and make covering -12 realistic.

2) Home/away split + offensive ceiling. VCU is 15-2 at home and averages 74.0 PPG with strong perimeter shotmaking (36.5% from three). Fordham scores just 64.6 PPG, shoots 41.2% overall, and is a brutal 61.8% at the line — a key detail when you’re trying to stay inside a big number late. If this turns into a foul/extend game, Fordham isn’t equipped to capitalize.

The first meeting was a 63-59 VCU win at Fordham, and that’s exactly why I like laying it here: same matchup, but you’re flipping venue to one of the better home-court profiles in the league, and you’re giving the ball-pressure team more runway to turn a 4-point game into a 14-point finish. VCU also comes in off a loss (75-88) with 8 days rest — I’ll take the focused favorite at home.

Pick: VCU -12 (3 units). Secondary lean: Under 143.5 — Fordham’s pace/efficiency profile makes them a natural under team unless they’re gifting runouts.
