This is the classic “good team in a groove vs bad team bleeding points” setup — and that’s exactly why the number is inflated. Los Angeles is coming off back-to-back strong wins and now gets a 15-46 opponent that’s been getting run off the floor. The market is reacting to the Pacers’ ugly recent margins and pricing this like a wire-to-wire blowout. But double-digit NBA spreads at a 226+ total are where underdogs live: variance + pace + late-game bench minutes create backdoor equity even when the dog is outclassed.

Two angles I don’t think the line fully accounts for:

1) Spread inflation + book disagreement. DraftKings/Betway are sitting -11.5 while most of the market is -12/-12.5. That tells you there’s resistance to laying the full freight. If I’m betting this game, I want the best of the number on the dog, and +11.5 is the key grab — it captures a lot of “comfortable win” finals that don’t get to 13+.

2) Game script favors points. The Clippers have 2 days rest and are in a favorable spot to build a lead — but that’s exactly when you see fourth-quarter coast/rotation minutes. Indiana has 3 days rest, and even bad teams can score enough in garbage time to sneak inside the number when the favorite goes conservative and trades possessions. With a total at 226.5, you’re not asking Indiana to be “good,” you’re asking for a couple made threes and free throws late.

Recent form supports the blowout narrative (Indiana has been losing by big margins; Los Angeles just posted 137), but that’s also why you’re getting a premium on the favorite. I’ll take the points and live with the volatility.
