Idaho at Sacramento State: The Fortress Gets One More Night

Sacramento State is 9-3 at home. Idaho is 6-9 on the road. The Hornets haven't won away from home all season — literally 0-14 — but they've turned their home court into a fortress where they've beaten Weber State, Montana, and nearly everyone else who walks through the door. Idaho comes in as a 3.5-point road favorite, and the market is begging you to take the Vandals because Sac State is 9-17 overall and just lost to Eastern Washington at home two nights ago. But here's what the line isn't pricing in: Idaho is 1-4 in true road conference games this year, and every loss has been by 5+ points. Their "road wins" include neutral-site tournaments and cupcakes. When they show up in a hostile Big Sky gym, they fold.

The narrative says Idaho has more talent — Keoni Watson and Mac Hopson are legit — but the Vandals are a turnover machine on the road (14.2 TO/g away vs 13.0 home), and Sac State's 8.5 steals per game is second in the conference. Prophet Johnson (18.9 ppg, 40.2% from three) and Jason Harris (17.5 ppg) can absolutely exploit that. The Hornets also rebound better (33.2 RPG vs Idaho's 34.6, but Sac State crashes harder at home with 10.9 offensive boards). This game stays close because Idaho can't protect the ball, and Sac State gets second chances.

The Eastern Washington loss stings, but it was a 102-94 shootout where Sac State hung 94 at home. They're not dead offensively. Idaho's defense on the road is softer than their season numbers suggest — they gave up 77 to Portland State, 83 to Weber State, 73 to Montana. All road losses. The Hornets have scored 86+ in three of their last four home wins. I'm not betting Idaho to go into a building where Sac State is 9-3 and suddenly become road warriors. Take the home dog with the cushion.
