This game is basically a referendum on style and shot quality: Boise State wants to drag you into a half-court grind where their top-end shotmakers can decide it late; San Diego State wants to win with physicality on the glass and steadier perimeter efficiency. The market hanging Boise State -1.5 tells you it expects a coin-flip, but the matchup leans more “Boise controls the terms” than the numbers imply.

Angle the line may not fully price in #1: Boise State’s scoring is underrated because their season-long shooting splits look ugly. The Broncos are at 41.0% FG and 29.1% from three on the year, but their actual shot-making ceiling is legit: Reggie Larry is 53.6% FG / 43.0% 3PT and Coby Karl is 39.5% from three. In a tight spread game, I want the side with more reliable late-clock creators—and Boise has multiple guys who can manufacture a bucket without needing transition.

Angle #2: San Diego State’s road volatility + turnover profile is a real problem in a short number. The Aztecs are a flat 6-6 away, and they cough it up 15.1 times per game. Boise isn’t a high-assist team (11.6 APG), but they rebound well enough (11.1 OREB) to create extra possessions, and they’ve been in better recent form: 4 wins in their last 5, holding Fresno State to 53 and Wyoming to 62. Meanwhile San Diego State has dropped 3 of its last 4 and just lost at New Mexico.

Matchup-wise, Boise can play big (Matt Nelson 64.7% FG, plus Larry’s versatility) to deal with San Diego State’s interior rebounding duo (Slaughter/Sanders), without sacrificing spacing because Larry/Karl can stretch it. If this comes down to the last four minutes, I trust Boise’s shotmaking and home court to be the separator.

Pick: Boise State -1.5 (3 units). Secondary lean: Under 143.5—both teams are comfortable in the half-court and Boise’s overall pace/efficiency profile keeps games from turning into track meets.
